The Indian Air Force recruits male Indian Citizens (subjects of Nepal are also eligible) for selection as Airmen in Musician Trade (Group Z).
Educational Qualifications Candidate should be able to read and write English and should have knowledge of Elementarv Arithmetic and should be proficient at playing any of the following instruments:
Trumpet/ Bass/ Saxophone/ Clarinet/Eu phonium/ Jazz Drum/ Piccolo/Bass trombone/Key Board/ Guitar/Sarod/Violin/Viola/ Cello/Contra Bass (String Bass).
Age: Between 17-35 years.
Medical Standards
(a) Minimum Height: 162 cms.(b) Weight: As per height and age.
(c) Chest: Minimum range of expansion should be 5 cm.
(d) Vision: Aided vision of at least 6/9 in each eye or unaided vision of 6/36. Power limit up to ± 3.5 Dioptres in any meridian with full field of vision. Colour vision: CP III. No medical surgery of the cornea is accepted.
(e) Hearing: Normal hearing, i.e. he should be able to hear forced whisper at a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately. Ears should be free of wax.
(f) Dental: Candidate should have good set of teeth with at least 14 dental points.
(g) Candidates should be generally free from all communicable diseases
or skin diseases. He should have no medical or surgical deformities.
Selection Procedure Eligible candidates are called for selection test in which they have to prove their efficiency in playing the musical instrument of their choice.
Terms and Conditions: Tenure: The initial tenure is for a period of 20 years, which is extendable up to 57 years. As an Airmen in the musician cadre, you become a part of the Air Force Band and you are trained to play various musical insh"uments. Pay: Salary starts during training itself at the rate of Rs. 2650 per month. After completion of the training, other allowances, other than the salary are also admissible as per existing rules. After retirement, gratuity, medical insurance, pension etc. are admissible.
